C-Max / Unitech Racing Fastest Porsche in Qualifying at GP3R in Trois-Rivieres
C-Max / Unitech Racing arrived ready to race at the GP3R street circuit in Trois-Rivieres Quebec Canada. This is always a favorite race due in part to the enthusiastic fans, beautiful location, and challenging and exciting course.
After some practice session tuning, both the #25 and #26 were set to qualify. The decision was made to have Kris qualify the #26 and start the race as insurance against any early lap damage to the #25. Dave did a great job qualifying the #25 in the 14th spot, with Kris taking the 6th spot in the #26. Kris lined up as the fastest Porsche in the field.
Race day dawned with perfect weather and the field ready to go for the 9:00 am start. Both cars made it through the opening lap but Dave sustained some front damage as a result of an over aggressive start by the Playboy BMW next to him. The decision was made to bring the #26 in since the #25 appeared to be going just fine.
Unbeknownst to the crew and drivers, the #25 had sustained damage to the brake and radiator ducting and was beginning to overheat both the engine and the right side brakes. Kris got in under yellow and set off after the leaders but was soon forced to retire the car when the brakes completely failed, ending the race for the C-Max / Unitech team.
Both cars are currently being readied for the brand new Thunderbolt Raceway at the New Jersey Motorsports Park. That race is set to run Sunday, August 31st at 8:45 am. Follow along with live timing and scoring at http://www.grand-am.com/.
Television air date for the Thunderbolt Raceway event is September 7th at 2 pm EST on SPEEDTV.
