C-Max/ Unitech Racing fast in steamy sweltering Birmingham Alabama
Birmingham Alabama - July 19, 2008
C-Max/ Unitech Racing showed up at the Barber Motorsports Park with two fast Porsche 997s ready to race. Thursday was a promoter test day with three intense one hour testing sessions scheduled. The #25 with Kris at the wheel was consistently on the top of the time sheets. The crew perfected the set up on this car while Dave concentrated on learning the track and getting comfortable with the car and technically challenging Barber course.
With the weather getting hotter and steamier each day, Fridays schedule was two practice sessions with a late afternoon qualifying. In the second practice session of the day Kris was the fastest car on the track. Dave took over the #25 in preparation for the qualifying session later that day. Dave was able to put the #25 in the 20th spot on the grid.
Saturday morning featured one practice session before the race. Always a dangerous thing since there is no time to fix any practice incurred problems, Dave did a great job and posted his fastest times of the weekend.
The field lined up for the start at 2:00 pm Saturday with the temps in the high 90's and humidity to match. In the turn before the green, Dave had a miscue and tagged the BMW in front of him, sending the #25 Porsche behind the wall for repairs. Returning to the track 12 laps down, Dave did a great job, driving for 1 hour and 50 minutes and running many laps equal in time to those of the leaders. Kris jumped in and finished the race in 22nd place, keeping the C-Max entry in the points.
C-Max/Unitech is looking forward to Trois Rivieres August 17th. The hospitality of the French Canadians is always a high point of the season and C-Max is overdue for a podium, so stay tuned!
