C-Max/Unitech Racing arrived at Mosports Raceway Park near Toronto Canada ready to run strong. Thanks to new sponsor Mothers Polishes and Wax, the #25 and #26 Porsche 997's were gleaming. The team had made use of their new summer shop in Montour Falls to prep the cars prior to crossing the border
Team owner and driver Dave Riddle took to the challenging Mosport course for the first practice session Thursday and experienced an ABS system failure, causing hard contact with the cement wall. Dave was fine but the #26 was retired for the weekend.
Down to one car, Kris Wilson fine tuned the #25 in preparation for qualifying. Dave got in and put the car in a solid 18th place starting position.
Fortunately for everyone, the predicted rain for the weekend never really materialized and the conditions at race time Saturday were perfect. Dave started, ran cleanly and picked off car after car. At lap 40 the first full course yellow occurred and Dave handed the Porsche off to Kris in a very strong 12th place.
Kris set off after the leaders and was running very fast laps in 5th place. Kris sensed something was amiss and dropped to 6th. Shortly thereafter on lap 53 the engine had an issue and Kris was forced to retire the #25 while running 6th.
The team plans to repair the #26, sort out the engine problem in the #25 and be back running for the win at Watkins Glen July 5th.
Information about the upcoming Watkins Glen event can be found on the Grand Am website, www.grand-am.com. The race will be run July 5th at 4:40pm EST.
